South Australia Leads Nation for First Home Buyers

South Australia leads with first home buyers growing at the fastest rate of any state in the nation.

With the latest ABS Lending Indicators released for the June quarter, first home buyer loans were up 20.3 percent in South Australia and had the strongest annual growth of any state in the nation.

This contrasts with the national figures falling 2.9 percent over the quarter and staying flat throughout the year.

So, what makes our state so great for first home buyers? Well, for one, a suite of State Government measures making it easier for first home buyers to enter the market. These include:

  1. No stamp duty for first home buyers buying new builds
  2. $15,000 First Home Owner Grants
  3. Low-deposit lending through HomeStart
  4. The nation’s first neighbourhood built exclusively for first home buyers at Playford Alive

Beyond these measures, South Australia still remains one of the lowest priced places for first home buyers in the country, with home loans $50,000 less than the national average. And significant housing policy initiatives that have led to a forty-year high of 15,211 homes approved in the year of June 2026, making the state the best in the nation for first home buyers.

If you’ve been wanting to purchase your first home in South Australia, now is a great time to enter the property market, and there’s no better state in Australia to do it.
